To coincide with the viral GTA Online Alien War, RTFKT teamed up with Yobs and OXU-9 to design and produce two limited-edition, custom-made Nike AF1 Low colorways – "Alien Force Purple" and "Alien Force Green" on May 7th, 2020. The sneakers incorporated a custom paint job, leather RTFKT blade logos, hand-made branded tongue tags and unique semi-translucent alien-shaped deubrés featuring matching alien logos painted on the outer heel of each shoe. Two additional custom pairs of Green and Purple "Alien Gang" Vans were also created to coincide with the sale.
The unofficial in-game event saw players donning green alien bodysuits who assumed the role of anarchic agents, engaging in random attacks on other players while adhering to a single moral code: no firearms. Opposing them were players in purple alien attire, acting as a vigilante force tasked with protecting the virtual populace. On the day of the physical sneaker release, RTFKT further expanded the multiplayer experience by releasing a custom AF1 Purple vs. Green Gang mod that provided in-game versions of the custom sneakers, allowing players to visually represent their chosen side in the Alien War with a pair of matching RTFKT shoes.
