On May 6th, 2021, RTFKT officially cooperated with sneaker legend Jeff Staple to create a handful of physical and digital art pieces and products. Launched on the Bitski platform, the RTFKT x Jeff Staple Meta-Pigeon collection was composed of three different products; of the three, two NFT virtual sneakers were released within a 15-minute “Open Edition” timeframe to ensure availability to those interested. Both sneakers had contrasting color schemes and different rarities that also reflect their respective price points.
The first of the two was the Purple iteration, titled "THE META-PIGEON MK", which donned a "Legendary" rarity with a price tag of $2021 USD and a total supply of 100. The second White model, titled "THE META-PIGEON K-MINUS", acted as a simplified version of its counterpart. With a “Rare” rarity, the white colorway was slightly more affordable at $500 USD and a total supply of 212. Both silhouettes shared similarities with the biggest being the iconic STAPLE Pigeon imposed onto its lateral heel. The third product came in the form of a digital-only collectible NFT cyber pigeon adequately named “THE META-PIGEON”, which was available in a limited quantity of 100 and was priced at only $1 USD for those interested in the collaboration but weren't willing to spend.
Additionally, a special one-of-one "META-PIGEON BOSS" was also auctioned on the SuperRare marketplace and sold for 25.3 ETH (Ethereum) on the same day. The Meta-Pigeon Boss included both a specially designed Meta-Pigeon and the corresponding sneaker in one NFT.
On June 17th, 2021, a forging event was conducted for all MK and K-MINUS NFT holders. Holders were given the opportunity to forge their NFT to receive a physical counterpart of their sneakers. Additionally, all holders who forged their physical sneakers received a "META-PIGEON OG". This was a surprise airdrop, which promised no utility at the time, but later on was included in the list of pre-sale items that gave access to the Clone X Mint Vial pre-sale.
