On November 19th, 2020, RTFKT facilitated the auction of "The X Evolution," a unique digital sneaker designed through a cooperative process between AI, RTFKT and renowned artist MGXS. This innovative project featured a dynamic element: as the bidding increased, the AI iteratively refined the design of the virtual sneaker, effectively showcasing its evolution throughout the auction. The winning bidder not only secured the exclusive digital collectible but also received a corresponding one-of-a-kind physical sneaker along with a unique avatar within The Sandbox metaverse, both reflecting the final AI-generated design. The original auction, which ran for approximately nine hours, was hosted on the now defunct Metagrail platform. The final shoe design had six colors and the auction was won by WhaleShark for 22 ETH (Ethereum).
